The clinic is designed to introduce young players to the sport of lacrosse in a positive, fun environment.
Instruction emphasizes rules of play and basic skills. Players will rotate through positions during drills
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEAMS: GRADES 3-4-5
Season play includes approximately 12 games and one or two weekend lacrosse festivals. Practices are two
days a week at Ritzer Field, behind Columbia High School. Historically, these teams practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but this schedule is not guaranteed from year to year. An updated practice schedule will be confirmed and posted online by the club each January.
Instruction emphasizes beginner to intermediate skills, and introduces team concepts with increasing complexity as the season progresses. Players will receive training for all positions, and generally will play multiple positions throughout the season. As players gain experience, they may choose to focus on a single position.
Depending on the size of the team’s roster, players may be assigned to pods to maximize playing time in games. At this level, assignments are designed to create pods of equal skill and experience. Pods will combine for games at the discretion of the team coaches, and players may be called upon to play one or more games with another pod in order to maintain roster size in the event of projected absences. Pods practice as one team.
At this level, every effort is made to provide equal playing time for all players.
MIDDLE SCHOOL TEAMS: GRADES 6-7-8
Season play includes approximately 12 to 15 games and two weekend lacrosse festivals. Practices are three days a week at Ritzer Field, behind Columbia High School. Historically, these teams practice on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but this schedule is not guaranteed from year to year. An updated practice schedule will be confirmed and posted online by the club each January.
Instruction includes intermediate to advanced skills, position-specific training and advanced team concepts.
Players generally focus on one position at this level.
Depending on the size of the team’s roster, players may be evaluated by coaches for assignment to an A or B team. At this level, A/B assignments are dependent on skill, experience, and commitment to the program.
This system is designed to best match teams in game play so as to ensure the safety and ongoing development
of all our players. A/B teams may be flexible, with assignments modified during the course of the season.
A and B teams practice together.
Playing time in games will be at the discretion of team coaches. Equal playing time is a priority, but is not a guarantee. Adjustments may be made to accommodate the opponent’s level of play. Consideration will be given to regular practice attendance, skill level, positive attitude and effort.
